Following last season's performance, the Colorado Buffaloes needed a change in their offense. Deion Sanders ensured this change by hiring NFL veteran Pat Shurmur as the program's new offensive coordinator before the upcoming season.

Shurmur is enjoying his return to the college football landscape in Boulder. With 21 years of experience in the NFL, he claims working at Colorado has made him "feel younger" and credits Cach Prime for that.

“This has been a program that has made me feel younger and refreshed and a lot of that has to do with Coach Prime and how he approaches his day and how he approaches building a program,” Shurmur said in the Colorado Football’s online video.”

Improved offensive performance is expected for Colorado in 2024

Colorado struggled on the offense last season. The team's offensive line conceded the second most sacks in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Shurmur plans to address this in the upcoming season.

“We’re going to do what we can to get the ball to our playmakers, and that goes without saying. You’ve seen it at all levels. We need to protect the football and be very efficient in our performance,” Shurmur said.
“We’re going to try to put together an offense that will protect him and then run the football so that what he can do is even more dominant.”

A significant improvement is expected in the team's offense next season with the arrival of Shurmur. The new offensive coordinator possesses the experience to ensure something gets done at the program as they transition to the Big 12 in 2024.

Shedeur Sanders will return for his senior season in college football while the Buffaloes improve their offensive line. A much better outing is anticipated on the offense in the upcoming season. This has presented Sanders as a potential candidate for the Heisman Trophy.

Will Pat Shurmur fit in immediately to college football?

Pat Shurmur last worked in college football as offensive line coach at Stanford in 1998. He spent over two decades in the NFL across several franchises after that. The big question is how well the coach can fit into college football immediately in 2024.

The landscape has witnessed significant changes since Shurmur left before the turn of the century and could face some challenges next season. Nonetheless, he has an offensive scheme that can immediately improve the Colorado team.
