The college football season is in full swing as the calendar has now passed the halfway mark with Week 8 in the books. The ACC has been playing good football in the early stages. Over the first eight weeks, the conference has gone 73-46 overall and 42-15 in non-conference games.
Four ACC teams are ranked in the latest rendition of the AP Top 25 Poll, with two of those teams ranked in the top 10 and primed for a postseason push. Two programs were among the others receiving votes, giving six of the ACC's 17 teams recognition from voters.
The No. 6 Miami (FL) Hurricanes lead the way as they are 7-0 and 3-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Florida State Seminoles continued their tough season. After entering the season the conference's highest-ranked team in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll - ranked tenth in the nation - they fell to 1-6, including a 1-5 mark in ACC play.
Conference play remained in full force in Week 8 as 12 of the ACC's 17 teams facing a conference opponent. With the postseason field of 12 teams likely guaranteeing the conference at least one postseason seed - and likely a first-round bye - take a look at which ACC teams remain in the College Football Playoff picture after Week 8 below.
ACC College Football Playoff bubble watch ahead of Week 9
The No. 6 Miami (FL) Hurricanes have the best chance of any ACC program to reach the College Football Playoff. They sit at 7-0 with a 3-0 mark in conference play. Miami has had a relatively easy schedule as it has not faced a ranked opponent.
Their path remains easy as they do not have a ranked opponent on their schedule over their final five games. The Hurricanes postseason odds currently sit at -385, the sixth-best in the nation.
The No. 9 Clemson Tigers are not far behind as their -185 odds of reaching the College Football Playoff are tied for seventh-best in the nation. They are 6-1 overall, and 5-0 in ACC play.
Clemson's lone loss came in the season opener against the then-No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. They do have a matchup against the No. 19 Pittsburgh Panthers remaining on their schedule.
The No. 22 SMU Mustangs have the third-best odds of any ACC program of reaching the postseason. However, they are considered a long shot as their +250 odds are only the 22nd-best nationally. The Panthers, with +850 odds, are the conference's only other team with better than +3000 postseason odds.
