Upon concluding the regular season with a 9-3 record, the Alabama Crimson Tide were left out of the 12-team College Football Playoff with two losses versus unranked opponents. After missing the playoff, several key players entered their names into the transfer portal, including 2023 four-star quarterback Dylan Lonergan.
Lonergan was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia, picking the Crimson Tide over teams like Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon.
With rumors swirling of a potential return from Jalen Milroe and steep competition in the quarterback room in Ty Simpson and Austin Mack, Lonergan will be on the move with three years of eligibility remaining.
On Friday afternoon, On3 reported that Boston College could be in the mix of potential landing spots for Lonergan.
Boston coach Bill O'Brien personally recruited Lonergan during his time as Alabama's offensive coordinator. The Eagles are expected to be buyers in the portal after quarterback Thomas Castellanos announced his transfer to Florida State. In their first season under O'Brien, the Eagles finished 7-5 in the regular season, earning their second consecutive bowl-game bid.
Lonergan threw just eight passes in his time at Alabama, completing seven attempts for 35 yards.
Lonergan ranked as a three-star transfer portal prospect
Lonergan is the latest Crimson Tide to throw his name in the transfer portal. The 6-foot-2 signal-caller is ranked as the No. 16 quarterback in the portal and the No. 139 player overall.
He is one of nine Alabama players to enter the transfer portal following the 2024 season.
- Jehiem Oatis, DL
- Justice Haynes, RB
- Kendrick Law, WR
- Kobe Prentice, WR
- Caleb Odom, WR
- Keanu Koht, EDGE
- Jahlil Hurley, CB
- Dylan Lonergan, QB
- Miles McVay, OT
Koht is the only player among the team's nine transfers to announce his commitment. On Friday afternoon, he announced his transfer to Vanderbilt, which defeated Alabama 40-35 in Week 6.
Each of Alabama's three four-star transfers, Oatis, Haynes, and Law, are ranked among the top 70 prospects in the transfer portal, per 247Sports. All three remain uncommitted, but Oatis has received a crystal ball to the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday afternoon.
