Air Force vs. Army summary
Despite entering the game as huge favorites, the Army Black Knights did not start the game as dominant as many expected. Part of this can be attributed to the fact that quarterback Bryson Daily was not able to play in the game. He sat out with an undisclosed injury and illness. As a result, backup Dewayne Coleman got his first career start.
Neither team managed to score a touchdown in the first half, but Army was able to take a small lead. They got into field goal range in the first quarter and kicker Trey Gronotte helped Army take a 3-0 lead.
The second quarter started with the Black Knights converting on another field goal on the first drive of the quarter. However, a few drives later, Air Force was able to get into field goal range and cut the lead to 6-3, which held as the score until halftime.
On the first drive of the second half, Army delivered the first touchdown of the game, taking a 13-3 lead. There was no more scoring in the third quarter, but Air Force took the ball into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Quentin Hayes threw an interception a minute-and-a-half into the fourth quarter, giving the ball back to the Black Knights.
This ended up being the beginning of the end for the Falcons as the Black Knights shut down Air Force in the fourth quarter before eventually scoring and taking a 20-3 lead. That lead would hold as the final score.
