The Alabama Crimson Tide held on for victory against the South Carolina Gamecocks to move to 5-1. However, it was not easy.

The Gamecocks came back from 14 points down to lose the game 27-25, but victory was within reach due to a choice made by Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer.

With under two minutes left on the clock, Alabama had both the lead and possession. All they needed to do was take the knee and let the clock run down. They did not do this, and what followed could have cost the Crimson Tide the game.

Speaking on his decision not to take the knee coach, Kalen DeBoer told the post game press conference:

"We have all those calls in, we practice it every Friday... You try to make him aware that they don't have any time outs, and that's the situation, and we will talk about that.. the one with Domani, I just talked with him about it, and again, you know this is where we learn. " (12:33)

Instead of taking the knee, Alabama scored a touchdown to give them an eight point lead.

In reply to this, South Carolina quickly made their way down the field and scored a touchdown when QB LaNorris Sellers found Nyck Harbor for a 31-yard TD.

Luckily for the Crimson Tide, the subsequent two point conversion missed. However, the Gamecocks gained possession again when their onside kick was successful.

It took a late interceptions by Domani Jackson to seal the win for Alabama, a win that could have been sealed earlier on if DeBoer made the decision to take the knee instead of going for the TD.

DeBoer is proud of Alabama's performance

Kalen DeBoer also spoke about his views on his teams overall performance. Immediately after the game, he told the media:

“There just so many times when we talk about finding a way to win. The ball wasn’t bouncing our way. But when you find a way to win when your backs against the wall like it was on the last drive there, I’m proud of these guys.”

While DeBoer is proud of his teams for his performance, this is another game that Alabama was lucky to win.

During their victory against Georgia, they gave up a 28-point lead to only narrowly win the game.

Their loss to Vanderbilt showed that the team is beatable, and this week's performance only confirmed this.

While they now have a 5-1 record, Alabama will need to improve on their performances if they realistically want to make a run for the national championship this season.
