The SEC blockbuster this Saturday between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide lived up to the expectation. The fitting contest saw No. 4 Alabama jump out to an early lead before No. 2 Georgia made a spirited comeback in the second half.
At one time, the Bulldogs caught up to the home team, even taking a 34-33 lead with two minutes and 40 seconds remaining. However, a late 75-yard touchdown by 17-year-old Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams meant the crowd at Tuscaloosa saw the home team win the game 41-34.
After the matchup, Alabama's social media channel had a two-word reaction to coach Kalen DeBoer's win over their SEC rivals.
"Still Bama," it wrote.
The two-word post had a video of the postgame celebration at Bryant-Denny Stadium with quarterback Jalen Milroe flexing Bama's win.
UGA Football Live also posted about the thrilling matchup.
"Alabama is still Alabama. Hell of a fight," it wrote.
Kirby Smart praises Alabama and his boys for putting on a show
Though coach Kirby Smart's poor record against Alabama Crimson Tide dropped to 1-6, he hailed the team, which has given the Bulldogs their only two losses in the last 51 games.
"Well, obviously, one hell of a game," Smart said in the press conference. "Great atmosphere, a lot of respect for Alabama's team, their fans, the venue, it was one hell of a game. A tale of the two halves. Obviously, we were not really prepared, and that falls on me."
Kirby Smart also mentioned his team's correct adjustments in the second half, which almost got it the win.
"In the first half, we didn't do a great job, especially defensively, but we also gave them short field, and the short field in a quarterback like Milroe creates a lot of tough times," Smart said. "I am extremely proud of our team. At halftime, I thought our coaches made good adjustments. Everybody was positive."
As for Kalen DeBoer, he has lived up to Bama's legacy right where the program's former coach Nick Saban left. The Bulldogs will probably next face them down the road in the SEC championship. Last year, Alabama emerged triumphant.
It remains to be seen how things unfold this year.
