The Alabama Crimson Tide have lost another key prospect. Four-star prospect Zymear Smith announced his decommitment from the Crimson Tide on social media on Wednesday.

Smith is re-opening his recruiting, which saw him get offers from Georgia, Tennessee and Texas. Smith was listed as an athlete, as he played running back but was expected to play on defense at Alabama.

"First and foremost I would like to say thank you to the Alabama football staff for taking the time out to recruit me [throughout] this process — nothing but love and respect from the beginning, appreciate [y'all] so much," Smith said on X. "After talking things over with my family and mentors, I will be de-committing from the University of Alabama."

Following Smith's decommitment, college football fans took aim at the Crimson Tide for losing another prospect:

"WHATS GOING ON IN TUSCALOOSA," a fan added.
"Alabama isn’t Alabama without Saban, it’s just another school," a fan added.

Other fans, however, think Smith decided to decommit because he knew he wasn't going to play:

"bro doesn’t wanna ride the bench, go be great at Maryland," a fan added.
"Akylin dear pushed him out," a fan added.

Some other fans took shots at Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer for having another recruit decommit:

"Deboer can’t recruit or even keep the ones that do commit…. We’re toast," a fan wrote.
"Debo is losing the locker room already," a fan added.

The fans who think Smith wasn't even going to play, won't be worried. But other fans are convinced that this is a bad look for Coach DeBoer and the Tide.

Zymear Smith's recruiting

Zymear Smith had 19 offers before he committed to Alabama. Among those schools that showed interest in him were Maryland, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Penn State and West Virginia.

In 2023, Smith carried the ball 71 times for 609 yards and seven touchdowns at North Carolina in Maryland. He added nine receptions for 380 yards and four touchdowns.

On defense, Smith had three interceptions, seven pass breakups and 20 tackles, while adding two punt-return touchdowns.

Smith is ranked as the No. 8 prospect in Maryland, the No. 12 athlete and No. 279 in the class of 2025 by 247 Sports.
