Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Malachi Moore is taking his talents to the next level. The Trussville native and former four-star recruit announced his decision to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Instagram, expressing gratitude for his time with the Crimson Tide.
Moore, a graduate student in 2024, is the only player in Iron Bowl history to win the game five times. Moore’s post was captioned:
“Thank you Alabama 🐘❤️ #Proverbs16:3.”
It received a flood of support, but one comment stood out. Fellow Alabama star Tyler Booker summed up the emotions with four words:
“It’s go time Brudda❤️.”
At 6’0” and 198 pounds, Moore is a ball-hawking safety with sharp instincts, excellent range, and the versatility to cover deep zones or match up against slot receivers. Physicality in the box may not be his selling point, but Moore's knack for securing tackles and reading plays positions him as a likely early-round pick.

When Cam Newton put Malachi Moore and Tom Brady in same sentence
Malachi Moore had a controversial moment during the Crimson Tide’s 40-35 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores in Week 6. After slamming Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia’s head to the turf and drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Moore’s sportsmanship was questioned.
However, former NFL star Cam Newton stepped in to defend Alabama's strong safety, even comparing him to Tom Brady. On his “4th and 1” podcast, Newton called out the double standards in how passionate players are judged.
"What I’m seeing here is no different than how we should judge greatness," Newton said.
He likened Moore’s fiery outburst to Brady’s infamous sideline tantrums, saying how similar actions are often labeled differently depending on the athlete.
“Judging Cam Newton soaking under a towel and Tom Brady going crazy or spazzing out on the sideline has always been subjective. 'Oh man, that's passion. Ah, he's a crybaby, oh man that's what winners should do, hold their teammates accountable,” Newton added.
"This was totally uncharacteristic for him," said retired coach Nick Saban on 'The Pat McAfee Show.'
Moore issued a public apology for his actions and expressed regret for letting down his team and fans.
