Alabama QB Jalen Milroe reveals biggest lesson from 7x national champ Nick Saban that helped him push through self-doubt

Jalen Milroe will be heading into the upcoming season to start for Alabama as QB1 for the second year in a row.

During his recent appearance on "Get Up," Milroe opened up about the biggest lesson from former coach Nick Saban:

“There’s so many things I learned from Coach Saban and it’s hard to narrow down one, but if I was to choose one, I say trust the process. Every process is different when it comes to just trusting your journey. And as a guy that came in from Texas, and being acclimated to the new environment in Alabama, and how you push every single day to accomplish any goal that you want to achieve, there’s adversity that comes along the process.

"There are times of self doubt, there’s times where you have to push through hard circumstances and throughout that time, never waiver from that. And it comes from a leader in coach Saban, pushing each and every day to be the best you, that’s very important. Just kind of go 1-0 each and every day, and just trying to attack the day at hand and it’s all about trusting the process,” he said.

Coach Saban was successful in building one of the greatest programs in Alabama, with six national championships, nine SEC titles, and numerous other achievements.

Nick Saban has opened up about his decision to retire many times, citing factors like NIL, the transfer portal, and especially how the team reacted following their loss against Jim Harbaugh's Michigan during the 2024 Rose Bowl showdown.

Jalen Milroe has taken on the role of leader at Alabama after Coach Saban's exit. He has been proving himself day in and day out during practice sessions.

On Saturday Down South podcast, Milroe talked about a moment during offseason drills that changed his perspective, signifying the difference between the coaching styles of two coaches.

Milroe completed an impressive pass, and while coach DeBoer was waiting for him to celebrate, the Alabama QB was preparing for the next play, which would've been the norm under coach Saban.

"It's funny because at practice, you know, I threw, I threw a really good ball, really good deep ball down the field, really good pass. And everyone was celebrating, I threw it, looking at the sideline for the next play, the next signal, and coach DeBoer comes to me like, Hey, what happened? I thought you'll celebrate and run down the field, I said, coach, I was worried about the next play," Milroe explained.
