The Iron Bowl will be held next week, as the usual regular season finale between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. Going into this year's edition, both teams are now out of contention for a spot in the SEC Championship game and the College Football Playoff.
However, this does not mean that this will not be the usual intense rivalry game that we have come to expect over the years.
Alabama vs. Auburn Iron Bowl History
There have been 88 editions of the Iron Bowl game. The first one was in 1893, which the Tigers won 32-22.
Since then, Alabama has won 50 times, Auburn 37, and there has been one tie. This came in 1907 and featured a low-scoring affair, with both teams scoring only six points each.
Iron Bowl record over last 10 years
While the Auburn Tigers were the dominant team in the early years of the Iron Bowl, in the last 10 years, this game has been dominated by the Alabama Crimson Tide.
In their last 10 meetings, the Tide has won eight. This is not a surprise considering that the Crimson Tide has been the team to beat in the last 10 years in the college football landscape.
However, Auburn has been able to win two games, and at times, the Tigers have been able to stay competitive in these contests.
In 2024, while both teams are not playing at their best, Alabama are the better team and should be able to defeat Auburn in a close game.
Where will the Iron Bowl be played this year?
The Iron Bowl always used to be held at a neutral venue in Birmingham, the state capital. However, in 1989, Auburn were allowed to play the game, when they were designated the 'home team,' at their home stadium.
A few years later, Alabama followed suit, and now the Iron Bowl is played at the program's respective home stadiums.
In 2024, the Crimson Tide is the home side for the game, so it will be held at the Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
