Travis Hunter, alongside the rest of the Heisman Trophy contenders, is in New York City for the ceremony this evening. However, he is not the only Buffaloes who has made his way to the Big Apple.
Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was seen playing catch with New York Giants wide receiver and former LSU Tiger Malik Nabers.
Sanders has been paired with the Giants, who are likely to be looking for a quarterback in the upcoming draft. However, due to their poor season, the Giants are considered for the number one pick of the draft.
According to the latest odds on who will be the number one pick, it is not Sanders but Hunter who is the favorite.
There is a possibility that Hunter could see himself as a Giant next season. The Buffaloes star and potential Heisman Trophy winner has established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the country.
Pairing himself with Nabers would mean that the Giants would have two talented receivers on the roster.
Hunter could also play a defensive role for the Giants. While their defense is mildly better than their offense, the Giants can also do with some help on this side of the ball. Adding Hunter to the New York Giants would be a win for the team. However, there is one glaring issue that the Giants will face if they were to bring in Hunter.
Hunter means no quarterback
Simply put, they would be missing out on a quarterback, something that the team desperately needs.
The Giants have had issues at the quarterback position for numerous seasons, with 2019 first-rounder Daniel Jones struggling throughout his tenure.
Jones was released by the team a few weeks ago, with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito taking up the role but still struggling.
The quarterback is the leader of the offense, and the Giants do not have one skilled enough to lead them to success. To solve this problem, bringing in someone like Miami Hurricanes' QB Cam Ward is a must for the team in order to help their future. This will mean passing on Hunter.
However, there are some ways that could allow Hunter to be drafted by the Giants, and they get a quarterback. The Giants can draft a quarterback in round two or three, such as someone like Texas Longhorns Quinn Ewers. There is a chance that this pick may not pay off, and the Giants will be in the same spot next year.
Another potential solution is to sign an established "bridge QB" for 2025 before trading them for a top pick in the following draft. This will open the door for Arch Manning, nephew of Giants legend Eli Manning, to be in contention for the role.
