Florida State couldn’t have anticipated a worse start to the 2024 college football season. The Seminoles suffered a 20-12 loss at home to Memphis, marking a third consecutive loss to start the season.
After finishing the regular season with an undefeated record, no one would have anticipated Florida State starting the 2024 season with a 0-3 record. However, Mike Norvell now faces the challenge of getting his team back on track as the season continues.
Following the game, former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown took a shot at the Seminoles for their poor performance against the Tigers with an NSFW video on his official X page. He joins lots of college football fans criticizing the team for the poor outing so far this season.
Mike Norvell disappointed with Florida State's performance
Mike Norvell expressed his disappointment at the way his team played against Memphis in his postgame press conference on Saturday. The team continues to experience significant struggles on both sides of the ball, something that wasn't experienced in the 2023 season.
“Extremely disappointed with the way we played at times,” Norvell said. “The things that we work and emphasize throughout the course of the week, pre-season, offseason, things that are critically important to being successful are not showing up as consistent as we need them to be.”
The situation has continued to get worse for Florida State since the season opener against Georgia Tech in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. The Seminoles have been the shadow of the team they were in 2023 and it looks like the season is already a disappointment.
Mike Norvell believes Florida State is better than the results
Despite a 0-3 start to the season, Mike Norvell believes Florida State is a much better team than the result it's getting so far this season. He noted there's still a lot they haven't gotten right but they'll continue to work hard to get better.
“I do believe that we're a much better team than what we're showing,” Norvell said. “Obviously, it still comes down me being able to get that out of these guys and it show up on game day.”
“Just disappointed that I've not been able to get more out of what I believe this team is. Going to continue to work at it. I believe in who we have. I believe in what they can do.”
The Seminoles will look to get back on track in Week 4 when they come up against ACC newcomer California Golden Bears. With three losses so far, it remains to be if the team can still retain the conference title and secure a spot in the College Football Playoff this season.
