Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning has showcased his talent to fans in the small amount of games that he, as a highly rated prospect, has played for the program.
The Longhorns have made the College Football Playoff as the fifth seed and will face the Clemson Tigers next week.
However, with the current struggles of starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, there have been calls for Manning to be given the starting role, or at least a bigger role in these games.
One person who thinks that Texas needs to use more of Manning is Insider Jonathan Davis. Davis said the following on the latest edition of the "Locked on Longhorns" podcast:
"Any defense would have a hard time dealing with what Arch Manning brings to the table."
During this season, Manning has been able to establish himself as a strong dual-threat quarterback. Like many modern quarterbacks, and unlike his famous uncles, Arch is strong with his feet.
This has been seen on numerous occasions this year but has been utilized a lot more since Quinn Ewers returned from his ankle injury.
The injury has limited the mobility of Ewers, which Manning has been to fill in for and has provided an extra layer of offense for a Longhorns side that has at times struggled when Ewers was at center.
But it is not just his mobility that makes him a threat for opposing defenses. Manning also has a strong throwing arm. This has been seen on a few occasions this year when he was the starting QB for a few games, but he has generally been used sparingly ever since.
This gives the Longhorns the element of surprise on offense. The team can play both Ewers and Manning, and if the Tigers begin to work at Ewers' offense plays, coach Sarkisian can easily put in Arch Manning, and things may change.
Arch Manning: The New Starting QB?
However, Manning's time as the backup quarterback will not last for long. This week, there have been numerous calls from those associated with College Football that Quinn Ewers is going to declare for the 2025 NFL draft.
This is what many said would happen at the start of the season, despite Ewers having one more year of eligibility and underperforming this season, which will affect his draft stock.
With Ewers out of the Texas program, Arch Manning will finally have the opportunity to lead one of College Football's biggest programs.
