The Texas Longhorns met Texas A&M after 13 years, and Arch Manning wasted no time making an impact with a 17-7 win. In the first quarter, with the Longhorns facing a big fourth-and-1 at the Aggies' 15-yard line, Manning came in for a special run play.
He ran a flawless zone read, keeping the ball and sprinting down the sideline before diving for the pylon to score. Initially ruled just short, the call was overturned after a replay review, giving Texas a 7-0 lead and firing up the crowd at Kyle Field.
"ARCH MANNING COMES INTO THE GAME ON FOURTH DOWN AND SCORES AN UNREAL TOUCHDOWN. TEXAS STRIKES FIRST IN COLLEGE STATION"
This touchdown was Manning’s first since starting against Mississippi State on September 28. It capped a massive 93-yard scoring drive that featured pivotal contributions, including a 26-yard scramble from Quinn Ewers and multiple first-down runs by Quintrevion Wisner.
Following the play, fans couldn't stop praising Manning’s talent.
"It’s safe to say Arch Manning is a bad dude." one fan said.
One fan said:
"Arch might be the most athletic Manning."
"The future of this program," one stated.
"Arch Manning’s DNA is unparalleled! @TexasFootball." another fan added.
Another expressed:
"Peyton taught him how to run."
One fan compared Arch to his grandfather:
"The GREAT Archie Manning returns. #Longhorns," one exclaimed.
Arch Manning’s big play brought a surge of excitement to Texas’ playoff hopes. In six games this season, the freshman quarterback has shown what he’s capable of, with 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions and three rushing scores.
Texas Longhorns to face Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC championship
The Texas Longhorns are set to face the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship after a hard-fought 17-7 win over Texas A&M, securing their spot in the title game in their first season in the conference. Texas, now 11-1, is looking to avenge its only loss of the regular season to Georgia, who enters the game at 10-2.
The Longhorns have rebounded strongly since their loss to the Bulldogs in October, with an improved defense that’s among the best in the country. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has praised his defense for playing with discipline and limiting opposing offenses in their win over Texas A&M.
"We played really good defense and we continue to play really good defense. I thought we did a good job limiting the quarterback of scrambling. I thought we kept the ball in front of us. I thought we tackled really well tonight. So all in all, that's kind of who we are, and every game takes on a life of its own."
While Texas’ offensive line still shows signs of inconsistency, Sarkisian believes they are playing their best football heading into the championship. Now, the SEC Championship game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Can the Longhorns avenge their 15-30 loss to Georgia earlier this season and claim the SEC title?
