Paul Finebaum shares insights on Texas star’s intentions with the Longhorns

College football insider Paul Finebaum believes Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning is committed to Texas.

Manning will remain Texas' backup quarterback in 2024 as Quinn Ewers returns to the program. With Ewers returning, many wondered if Manning would enter the portal.

Manning decided to remain in Texas, and Finebaum says he is invested in the program.

"He could have easily left, which he did not do," Finebaum told a caller on The Paul Finebaum Show (via 247Sports). "I could just give this to you anecdotally here. I've been to Austin twice lately, and the word down there is that Arch Manning is completely and totally invested."

Manning will likely be able to take over as the starter in 2025 and could be one-and-done as a starter. If he has a good season, he will likely declare for the NFL draft and be selected high.

Arch Manning says he looks up to Quinn Ewers

Manning was a highly touted prospect out of high school. Although he could have gone to a school to become an immediate starter, he chose not to.

After one season at Texas, he will now be the primary backup, and Manning says he has looked up to and learned a lot from Ewers.

"It's nice having a guy like Quinn to look up to. He was a highly rated recruit coming out of high school," Manning said. "He's such a good guy. I've learned so much from him. We've become really good friends. I'm just really glad that I'm in such a good situation…
"I like the situation I'm in. I like Austin. I like the school. It takes time as a quarterback to get established, learn everyone's names. I didn't want to go somewhere else and do that again. Sometimes, you got to stay patient and wait your turn."

Manning has thrown five passes, completing two for 30 yards in his college football career.

The Texas Longhorns will open its 2024 season on Aug. 31 against Colorado State. Texas is entering its first season in the SEC, and the Longhorns have notable upcoming conference games against Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida and Texas A&M.
