It's not unusual for college football coaches to be viewed as potential saviors for struggling NFL teams. After the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the wild-card round on Saturday night, Mike Tomlin's position as head coach is being closely examined.
Former wide receiver Antonio Brown, known for his sharp takes on social media, has called for Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Marcus Freeman to replace Tomlin in Pittsburgh. This comes on the heels of Freeman enjoying a great run with Notre Dame, leading them to the national championship game.
"Next HC of the Pittsburgh Steelers…," Brown wrote on X.
Fans on social media love the idea:
"As a Steeler and ND fan, I support 💯."
"Yes! This man has turned around every team defense he’s been to," another fan added.
"That would be huge! But Tomlin isn’t as much an issue as Wilson," one fan remarked.
"The Steelers have lost their soul," another wrote.
However, there were some who supported Tomlin:
"There is nothing wrong with Tomlin. Give him a quarterback to operate the offense, maybe go after Sam Darnold or trade for JJ McCarthy," one fan wrote.
"Steelers aren’t firing Mike Tomlin, you of all people should know this," another said.
The internet managed to find humor in the situation, as some users suggested that Antonio Brown and former US Vice President Kamala Harris could step in as the next head coaches of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Marcus Freeman is not leaving Notre Dame
Before the College Football Semifinal game against the Penn State Nittany Lions, Marcus Freeman was asked by the media about the possibility of leaving Notre Dame for an NFL coaching position. Freeman dismissed the rumors, stating that a new contract with Notre Dame has already been finalized.
“I don’t know when they announced it, I can’t remember, but about a week or two ago, they announced another long contract here at Notre Dame. So I don’t think we have anything to worry about,” Freeman told ESPN’s SportsCenter.
This should put an end to any coaching rumors involving Freeman. The coach is now focused on bringing home a national title for the Fighting Irish, their first since 1988.
