The Heisman Trophy race this year is seen by most as a two-horse race, between Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty and Colorado Buffaloes' two-way star Travis Hunter. Although other players have been in the mix at different times, these two players have been at or near the top for most of the season.

As the regular season comes to an end this weekend, most pundits and fans seem to think that Travis Hunter is a lock to win the award. However, there are still some who are heavily in favor of Ashton Jeanty winning the prestigious award.

Notably, on Friday night, former NFL player Jordan Reffett spoke in support of Jeanty on X after Boise State (11-1) won 34-18 over the Oregon State Beavers. He wrote:

"Ashton Jeanty is your 2024 Heisman Trophy winner. Travis Hunter is a great talent and great story ... but he's not even the best player on his team. Shedeur Sanders is. Jeanty would get my vote. Best College Running Back in the last 4-5 years."

Can Ashton Jeanty win the 2024 Heisman Trophy?

It is possible for Ashton Jeanty to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy, but it is not likely. Despite getting support from former pros like Jordan Reffett, Jeanty is a long shot to win at this point. While the race was close until recently, the sportsbooks seem to agree that Hunter is a near lock to win the award.

FanDuel gives Hunter -10,000 odds to win the Heisman. That makes him a massive favorite and no one else is close. Jeanty still has the second-best odds, but it would be a massive surprise if he won.

FanDuel gives him +3000 odds to win. No one else is in contention as the number three contender, Miami quarterback Cameron Ward, has +25,000 odds.

Now, sportsbooks are not always right, and it is a possibility that Jeanty could pull off an upset and win the Heisman. However, the odds are accurate more often than not, and as a result, it looks very likely that Hunter will be the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner.

If Ashton Jeanty does not win the award, it does not take away from the excellent season he has had. He has 2,288 rushing yards at the end of the regular season, and since bowl games count, that number could get even larger.

It is one of the best rushing seasons ever, but it does not seem like it was enough to win the Heisman.
