Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty has helped the Boise State Broncos compete for the Mountain West title for the second consecutive year. The Broncos emerged as conference champions last season and are hoping to be a contender in the new 12-team playoffs by winning another Mountain West championship.
Jeanty played a key role in the Broncos' 17-13 triumph over Wyoming in Week 13. The running back tallied 169 yards and one touchdown rushing for 19 carries, breaking the 2000-yard single-season rushing mark.
Jeanty is also considered to be a top contender for the Heisman trophy this season alongside Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter. So what do his chances look like after Week 13?
Ashton Jeanty Heisman odds
According to the odds by BetMGM, the Boise State running back has the second-best chance of winning the Heisman trophy at +750. After his performance against Wyoming, Jeanty became the 30th FBS player to break the 2,000-yard single-season rushing mark.
Furthermore, he is just 556 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders' single-season rushing record that was set in 1988. He has one more regular season game left followed by the conference title game to try and break this record.
Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter is considered to be the betting favorite to win the Heisman this year at -1000. Even though his team lost to the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 13, Hunter's position has not changed in the Heisman race.
He has tallied a total of 1,036 yards and 11 touchdowns receiving on offense and 30 total tackles along with one forced fumble and three interceptions on defense. Apart from them, Miami QB Cam Ward has the third best chances (+1200) followed by Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (+6600).
CFB analyst makes his pick for the Heisman between Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter
College football analyst Joel Klatt chose his favorite to win the 2024 Heisman award on his show called the 'Joel Klatt Show'. He bet his money on two-way star Travis Hunter stating that he is doing incredible things in the Big 12.
Klatt further emphasized why he thinks Ashton Jeanty won't win the Heisman. He said that given the low level of competition in the Mountain West, it will be difficult for the Boise State RB to make a case for himself.
"All due respect to Ashton Jeanty, you're having a great year, but a Mountain West running back is not winning the Heisman trophy over a guy who is in the Big 12 doing what he is doing on both sides of the ball."
"He (Ashton Jeanty) is going to be a finalist for the Thorpe Award, and he's going to be a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, and he might win one of them....Travis is doing things that I'm just like , that's incredible, because Travis Hunter is one of one," he added.
The Boise State Broncos are scheduled to take on Oregon State in their final regular season game before the conference championship showdown. It will be interesting to see if Jeanty will be able to silence his critics and emerge as the Heisman winner this season.
