Boise State Broncos star Ashton Jeanty is in the midst of his final collegiate campaign. Coming out of Lone Star High School, the running back committed to playing for the Broncos as a part of the 2022 recruiting class. After his true freshman campaign, Jeanty went on to become a key player for the team on the field.
Ashton Jeanty is enjoying another fruitful campaign this season and is expected to be the potential top contender for the Heisman alongside Colorado's Travis Hunter. He is also considered one of the top RB prospects in next year's draft. According to The Athletic's Jon Machota, Jeanty may have given a hint about which team he wants to play for.
According to the article, Jeanty talked about how playing in Texas makes sense for him since his family resides there. This led to the rumor mill churning that the Boise State RB wants to play for Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys.
"My family is all in Texas," Jeanty said. "Family being there, all the connections, all the relationships, I feel like that would just be the perfect city to play in."
The Dallas Cowboys are not having a great season this year. Apart from being 3-7, QB Dak Prescott is also sidelined for the rest of the year because of a hamstring injury. This makes it difficult for the Cowboys to end their campaign on a successful note.
However, one positive thing about this situation is that they might have a potential top-10 pick in next year's draft. And with this option, Jones and his team might look to bolster their offense by drafting Ashton Jeanty.
Will Ashton Jeanty win the Heisman Award?
Throughout the season, Ashton Jeanty has been the favorite to win the coveted award. However, his biggest competitor, Travis Hunter, put up a spectacular performance during Colorado's victory over Utah in Week 12 putting up 55 receiving yards and one rushing touchdown on offense along with one interception and three total tackles on defense.
On the other hand, Jeanty helped the Broncos win against the San Jose State Spartans while tallying 159 yards and three TDs rushing, taking them a step closer to the new 12-team playoffs as a Group of Five champion. The Athletic concluded after Week 12 that the race was all but over with Hunter as the champ.
"If the polling is any indication, this Heisman race is about over. Travis Hunter keeps doing special things for a Colorado team that now has a CFP bid in its control."
The finale of the 2024 Heisman race is proving to be an action-packed thriller. It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious in the end.
