As the race to the Heisman Trophy draws close, the college football world is divided between two exemplary players, Boise State’s running back Ashton Jeanty and Colorado Buffaloes' two-way star Travis Hunter. Both players have displayed remarkable feats of athleticism throughout the 2024 season and in the past week, they’ve made strong cases for the award.
For now, Travis Hunter leads the Heisman odds list and though many are pleased with this, several fans believe that Jeanty is more deserving of the award. On Thursday, On3 Sports posted the Heisman odds list on their X account.
Several college football fans responded to Travis Hunter topping the list with displeasure and made strong statements in support of Ashton Jeanty.
"Jeanty or it's rigged," one fan said.
"The field easily. This is such a dumb debate. Snap count is not a stat to measure a Heisman. Take Jeanty off Boise St and they Might be .500. He's the best player in CFB. Debate a wall," another fan said.
"I wish people would stop acting like Hunter is the first football player to play both sides of the ball regularly. Chuck Bednarik, Patrick Peterson, Cordell Stewart ... etc. If Jeanty doesn't win it's rigged," one fan said.
Here are some more reactions from fans.
"Jeanty or no one takes the award seriously anymore lol," one fan said.
"Travis Hunter has been doing more than what any other athlete in the planet can do. But fr Ashton Jeantry is putting up unbelievable numbers as RB and should be the favorite for heisman," another fan said.
"Travis Hunter as the favorite over Ashton Jeanty is wild," one fan said.
Jeanty’s performance in Boise State’s 34-18 victory over Oregon State on Friday was noteworthy, as he put up 226 yards and a touchdown on 37 carries. Travis Hunter gave his supporters more reason to push for him in Colorado’s 52-0 domination of Oklahoma State with 116 yards and three touchdowns.
Ashton Jeanty makes Boise State history with record-breaking performance against Oregon State
Ashton Jeanty is considered by some to be the best college football player on the field. He’s put up enough incredible displays of athleticism for fans and haters alike to not be surprised anymore.
Jeanty rushed for 226 yards and a touchdown in Boise State’s 34-18 victory over Oregon State. This set the Mountain West Conference single-season rushing record and broke the Boise State single-season scrimmage yards record.
When FOX Sports reporter Josh Sims asked Jeanty how he felt about his incredible performance, Jeanty said:
“First of all, I gotta give all glory to God … But it felt amazing man. Not only just for me but for the team. The personal success that I have doesn’t come anywhere just from me. It comes from team success, and great offensive play and defensive play.”
Despite his humble response, Jeanty is undeniably a phenomenal player. His performance against Oregon State will no doubt strengthen his case for the Heisman Trophy.
