The Iron Bowl is upon us and injuries could play a role in deciding Saturday’s clash between the Auburn Tigers and the No. 13 Alabama Crimson Tide. Both teams enter Week 14 with battered rosters, requiring coaches to alter their strategies in Tuscaloosa.
Auburn injury report
The Tigers (5-6, 2-5 SEC) are riding some momentum after a thrilling four-overtime victory over Texas A&M, but face major personnel challenges. Auburn’s injury report includes linebacker Jamonta Waller, defensive back Tyler Scott, defensive back Champ Anthony, kicker Alex McPherson and tight end Brandon Frazier, all ruled out. Tight end Rivaldo Fairweather remains a game-time decision.
Alabama injury report
Alabama (8-3, 4-3 SEC) also has its share of setbacks. Kalen DeBoer will be without linebacker Deontae Lawson, who underwent season-ending surgery.
Defensive back Keon Sabb, wide receiver Cole Adams and linebacker Quandarrius Robinson are also out. Alabama’s depth will be tested in what is a must-win game to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Rivalry Week has set the stage ablaze in the college football world. Despite the injury setbacks, the Iron Bowl promises high stakes and drama.
Both Auburn and Alabama want to end on winning side of Iron Bowl game
Redemption day is here for both football programs – Auburn and Alabama, who’ll lock heads for the Iron Bowl on Saturday. Alabama HC DeBoer and Auburn HC Hugh Freeze know the importance of ending the season on a high and positive note.
While Auburn eyes a bowl game berth to salvage its year, the Crimson Tide clings to its slim College Football Playoff hopes. DeBoer expressed frustration over his team's self-inflicted wounds this year.
"It's disappointing because I feel like we've done a good job of building up over the last month, really the consistency in all areas. Winning the turnover margin has been key for us, but last week against Oklahoma, we gave up momentum," DeBoer said.
DeBoer and Co. will aim to turn the page on costly mistakes. As for Auburn, Freeze sees this as a chance to erase past heartbreaks, particularly last year’s crushing defeat to Alabama.
"To sit in this seat and to lose one like we did last year still doesn't sit right. I know that the Auburn faithful had to endure that, and we want to change that feeling in this building and for our great fan base in this state," Freeze admitted.
Pride, playoff hopes, and bowl eligibility hang in the balance in the Auburn vs. Alabama game at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
