Behren Morton plays in the quarterback position for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. This week, Texas Tech face the Iowa State Cyclones in what will be an important game in relation to them being able to make a bowl game this season.

But, will Morton be able to play in the game?

Will Behren Morton play today?

Behren Morton is likely to play against the Iowa State Cyclones after leaving just before halftime of the Texas Tech Red Raiders' game against the TCU Horned Frogs last week.

During the game against the Horned Frogs, Morton was tackled by three defensive players just before halftime, causing him to land on his shoulder.

At the time, it was not clear what had happened on this play. The television broadcast of the game did not show any repeats of the play and the tackle on Morton.

It was not until the second half began that an injury to Morton was confirmed, as he was replaced by freshman Will Hammond for the rest of the game.

In the build-up to this week's game against Iowa State, Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire gave an update on Morton's shoulder.

"Nothing structurally is wrong with Behren’s shoulder," McGuire said. "He’s got a lot of movement back in it, and we’ll see how he feels (Tuesday), if he’ll practice (Tuesday), if he’ll practice Wednesday.”
“We were nervous there was a break. Couldn’t see anything, so structurally, he’s good to go.”

Morton's chances of starting were increased a few days after McGuire said this, as ESPN's Pete Thamel wrote on Thursday that the quarterback had "looked strong in practice."

Behren Morton's importance to Texas Tech

Behren Morton's clearance to play in this game will only benefit a Texas Tech side that is in desperate search for win, as they are on a two-game losing streak. A third consecutive loss will make their chances of making the Big 12 championship game incredibly slim.

This season, Morton has thrown for 2,063 yards and has a completion percentage of 63.4%. He has also been able to throw 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions. In terms of passing yards, he is ranked 20th in the country.

This goes alongside the run game, which is highly reliant on the performance of Tahj Brooks, who has nearly 1,000 rushing yards to his name this season.

However, both sides of the offense will be working against an Iowa State side that is ranked number 11 and still has their unbeaten record.
