Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers faced the Arizona State Sun Devils on Wednesday in the 2024 Peach Bowl. Fans were hoping for a close game after the first five games of the College Football Playoff were blowouts.

Early in the game, the Sun Devils got the scoring started despite being a big underdog. They scored a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. However, Quinn Ewers led his team down the field on the next drive to score an easy touchdown with eight minutes left. He ended the drive with a 23-yard TD pass to DeAndre Moore.

One fan was worried that it was going to be another blowout.

"Mannnn this better not be another blowout. Texas scored too easily."

More fans reacted as the Longhorns capitalized on another TD off a punt return.

"Texas Longhorns. 2 offensive plays. 2 touchdowns. Wow," one fan wrote.
"Texas Longhorns are dominating Arizona State Sundevils," one fan commented.
"Texas Longhorns kicking some ASU ass early!," one fan added.

Some fans criticized Arizona State.

"Arizona state is terrible, y’all letting the Texas Longhorns do this to y’all," one fan wrote.
"Texas came out ready to kick ass and ASU looks like they have no answer for them," one fan commented.

Texas does not need Quinn Ewers for its second TD as it capitalizes on a punt return to increase its lead

While Quinn Ewers was instrumental in helping the Texas Longhorns score their first TD of the game, he was not needed for the second. The Longhorns did well after the offense scored as the defense forced the Sun Devils to punt after three plays.

On the punt, Silas Bolden received the kick and ran 75 yards all the way to the endzone for another TD, giving the Longhorns a 14-3 lead with seven minutes left in the first quarter.

College Football Playoff has featured several blowouts so far

The College Football Playoff games have featured almost nothing but blowouts so far. The first round of the playoff had four games, all of them ending in blowouts.

The closest game was Notre Dame's 27-17 win over Indiana, but that game was not as close as the score suggests. The Fighting Irish had a 17-3 lead in the first half.

The second round did not start any better as Penn State dominated Boise State, advancing to the semifinal with a 31-14 win. If Texas completes a blowout over Arizona State, more fans will express their concern over the new 12-team playoff format.
