Quinn Ewers had a strong start for the Texas Longhorns in their Peach Bowl game against Arizona State on Wednesday. However, there was a brief period in the second quarter when the Longhorns quarterback made a couple of poor throws that drew annoyance from fans on social media.
Although Texas led 17-3 at halftime, a section of college football fans slammed Ewers for some sluggish plays.
"Quinn Ewers better take that $6 million and play another year cause after that he’s selling used cars. Unbelievable downfall. Had me fooled," one fan wrote.
"Quinn ewers is a**," another fan tweeted.
"Can’t miss that throw if your Quinn Ewers. That’s two really bad throws today," a fan said.
Some even urged Ewers to get rid of the ball quicker, while others suggested that the Texas quarterback should not declare for the 2025 NFL draft.
"If Quinn Ewers doesn’t start throwing this f****** football again I’ll kms," a fan commented.
"If Texas fails to win the natty it will single handily be quinn ewers fault. this guy f****** stinks," an X user tweeted.
"Quinn Ewers better not even think about declaring for the draft," another fan uttered.
Ewers completed six of 10 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in the first half against Arizona State. Although he wasn't terrible by any means, the Texas quarterback appeared to be targetted by some fans, who seemingly demanded more from him on the gridiron.
Quinn Ewers could return for one more year
On Tuesday, reports from On3 claimed that Ewers could return for another year of college eligibility in the 2025 season. The Texas quarterback has reportedly been offered $6 million by an unnamed school to enter the transfer portal after his current season with Texas.
Ewers, who began his career at Ohio State in 2021, transferred to Texas before the 2022 season and has been the starting quarterback for the Longhorns.
However, Texas plans to give Arch Manning the starting role for the 2025 season, which could see Ewers move elsewhere to get a starting berth at a program. There is also the possibility that Ewers decides to go pro and enter the 2025 NFL draft.
