While everyone in Chapel Hill seems to be rejoicing about the news that Bill Belichick will be the new North Carolina Tar Heels coach, Cam Newton is not so sure if this is a safe next step for the coach.
In one of the biggest coaching moves in college football this year (it would be the biggest if not for Nick Saban's retirement) Belichick took his first collegiate job with North Carolina. This has many pondering what the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach can achieve in college football.

When asked on Friday's edition of his podcast, "4&1 With Cam Newton," who was more at risk with the move, either North Carolina or Belichick, the former NFL quarterback said:
"Belichick is at risk. ... UNC has been a bottom-feeder, and I love North Carolina as a whole, but outside ... in football, football, football, let me say this, football, they've been bottom-feeders in the ACC for years."
Newton, who starred with the Carolina Panthers, won a Heisman trophy and a national title with the Auburn Tigers after starting his college career with the Florida Gators.
Newton said that Belichick had a steep learning curve with regards to recruiting, especially regarding the emotional intelligence needed to deal with Gen Z kids. However, he clarified that knowing Belichick as a former player of his, he does not doubt that the coach knows his inadequacies and that he will bring in the necessary personnel to mitigate any of his shortcomings.
Bill Belichick is refurbishing the North Carolina coaching staff
Bill Belichick has lost no time with making the job at Chapel Hill his own, bringing in a flurry of new hires to North Carolina. Some of his most important hires highlight what Cam Newton already hinted at, bringing in experience in the places Belichick is not well versed.
The most important of his decisions was bringing in former Cleveland Browns general manager Michael Lombardi to play the same role at North Carolina. This would seem a role focused on the recruiting game, showing that Belichick will manage a program differently from a traditional college program. Lombardi brings three decades of NFL experience with him.
Belichick has also brought Freddie Kitchens, a former member of Mack Brown's staff, to be his offensive assistant.
Andrew Blaylock is someone with deep experience in the recruiting game at UCF and Appalachian State. He will be joining as a member of the player personnel department, also helping shore up the recruiting game.
Joe Anile, an NFL scout who worked under Belichick himself at New England, will also join the player personnel department.
