Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots became synonymous with each other, winning six Super Bowl rings. Brady left the Patriots in Mar. 2020 to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won his seventh ring. However, it hasn't been the same for Belichick and the Patriots without the legendary quarterback.

Since Brady's departure, the Patriots made the playoffs only once (in 2021, losing in the Wild Card round). This was also the same season when they registered their only above .500 record after the Brady era, which led to the firing of Belichick after the 2023 campaign. The legendary coach is yet to find any suitors since then.

UNC interviews Bill Belichick for potential coaching opportunity

While Bill Belichick is yet to be approached by an NFL team for a coaching position, the former Patriots coach job hunt has led him to North Carolina. According to Insider Carolina, the program has interviewed the legendary NFL coach.

UNC is searching for candidates for the coach position following the dismissal of Mack Brown. Tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens was named the interim head coach for the upcoming bowl game.

Entering the college football landscape will potentially be a rookie experience for Bill Belichick, who is in his 70s.

Belichick's coaching journey began in 1975 with the Baltimore Colts as a special assistant, where he quickly established his ability to contribute in various roles. Over the next few years, he worked his way through multiple coaching positions with the likes of the Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos and the New York Giants, gaining experience in special teams, defense and offensive skill positions.

Belichick's tenure with the New York Giants (1979–1990) was pivotal, as he worked under coach Bill Parcells and played a key role in shaping their defensive identity. Under Parcells, the Giants developed one of the most formidable defenses in NFL history, highlighted by their victory in Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV.

In 1991, Belichick became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, where he served until 1995, but his time in Cleveland was marked by mixed results.

Bill Belichick was named the head coach of the Patriots in 2000, marking the beginning of an unprecedented dynasty. As both coach and de facto general manager, Belichick led the Patriots to six Super Bowl victories (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII) and nine Super Bowl appearances, setting records for the most championships and playoff victories by a coach.

It remains to be seen whether he gets the opportunity next season in pro ranks or college.
