The North Carolina Tar Heels fired head coach Mack Brown last month before their final regular season game against NC State. Freddie Kitchens took over as the interim head coach as the program continues its hunt for a successor to Brown.

According to reports, the North Carolina Tar Heels have also interviewed former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time. Belichick had a successful stint with the Patriots in the NFL, leading them to seven Super Bowl championships between 2000 and 2023.

Bill Belichick has never coached college football but has made a name for himself in the NFL. Thus, having his experience in the program could prove to be a beneficial move for the Tar Heels, who are better known for their basketball program.

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on Bill Belichick potentially beginning his collegiate coaching journey with UNC.

One fan stated that the 72-year-old should consider retirement rather than another coaching gig.

"Blud needs to retire"
"College football operates like the NFL now. Why not, he'd get a big front office and scouting department. I'd send my nephew there to get that type of coaching. Don't need coaches to be buddy buddy dancing with the kids," another fan wrote.
"College makes sense for him. He gonna get the Deion treatment from any college he wishes to go to and change the entire program to his liking," one fan wrote.
"Why are you interviewing him? Just give him the job. Lol," another fan stated.
"I want to hear Belichick's pitch to a high school recruit just once, please," one fan added.
"Big, big mistake" one fan said.

College football insider drops another potential candidate apart from Bill Belichick in UNC's coaching search

Bill Belichick is not the only person who is linked to the Tar Heels' coaching search. A few other candidates have been rumored to be potential replacements for Mack Brown. As per ESPN's Chris Low, Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall is another name that is making rounds in UNC's coaching carousel.

He took over the team this season after two seasons with Troy and will be participating in this weekend's AAC title game against Army. Low believes that Sumrall could have a potential talk with UNC after the conference championship game.

"Tulane's Jon Sumrall is also at or near the top of North Carolina's list and is expected to talk formally with officials after the Green Wave's AAC Championship game against Army on Friday," Low said

Apart from him, Low also named Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell and Georgia DC Glenn Schumann as other potential candidates to take over North Carolina.

The Tar Heels are waiting to see which Bowl game they will play after recording a 6-6 regular season campaign. Kitchens will guide the players during that game.
