Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty continued his stellar season during the Broncos' narrow 17-13 win over the Wyoming Cowboys in Week 13. Jeanty tallied 169 rushing yards on 19 carries resulting in one touchdown to bring his season totals to 2,062 yards on 275 carries resulting in 27 touchdowns.
Jeanty still trails (+550) rival, Colorado Buffaloes' two-way star Travis Hunter (-850) in the Heisman Trophy race according to FanDuel. On Thursday, former Boise State defensive tackle Elliot Hoyte ripped apart college football fans who supported Hunter over Jeanty for the Heisman.
"Huntersexual (hʌn-tər-'sɛkʃʊəl) /noun/ Definition: A "Huntersexual" is a term for an overly zealous Travis Hunter bandwagon fan who passionately believes in Hunter's worthiness for the Heisman Trophy, using the number of "snaps" played as their main argument, regardless of actual on-field production or context," Hoyte tweeted.
"This person tends to ignore other factors, such as the impressive stats of superior candidates like Ashton Jeanty, focusing solely on Hunter's versatility and playtime to justify their claim."
Ashton Jeanty needs "Heisman moment" according to analyst
Jeanty has broken the Boise State Broncos' single-season rushing record (2,062 yards) and has led the Broncos to the Mountain West Conference championship game with a phenomenal 10-1 record. The team is also ranked No. 11 in the latest college football playoff rankings with a chance to earn a first-round bye.
Despite the phenomenal season, Jeanty has not made any gains toward Travis Hunter in the Heisman Trophy race and in fact, seems to be falling further behind with the end of the college football season drawing closer.
During Wednesday's episode of the "Dan Patrick Show," the analyst outlined the hurdles that Jeanty faces in his bid to sway voters for the prestigious award (2:55).
"Ashton Jeanty has had a wonderful year," Patrick said. "The problem is he plays for Boise State. He hasn't had a standalone game. He plays on Friday at noon on FOX."
"He needs a Heisman moment, and I don't know if he's going to get it. But he has 2,000 rushing yards, they're in the playoffs...Ashton Jeanty has Boise State with a first-round bye. You got factor that in."
Despite the hurdles in his bid for the Heisman, Ashton Jeanty has dragged the Broncos to nationwide prominence.
