Brian Kelly on hot seat: LSU coach faces heat from Tigers fans after huge loss to SEC big shark Alabama

LSU coach Brian Kelly entered the season as one of the coaches on the hot seat after a disappointing season last year when he had the services of Heisman Trophy-winner Jayden Daniels and still finished the season 10-3. The current season started with a narrow loss to the USC Trojans and culminated in a blowout loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

In Week 11, the No. 11 Crimson Tide, under as much pressure as the No. 14 Tigers, rolled into Baton Rouge and blew out LSU 42-13 in Death Valley in a night game, much to the dismay of Kelly and booing Tigers fans.

During his postgame news conference, Brian Kelly revealed his reactions to disapproving fans throwing debris on the pitch during the third quarter and emptying Death Valley before the game was over.

"If I was in the stands, I wouldn't be happy," Kelly said. "I'm not advocating that you throw anything on the field. But I think it's like any other venue: I think you should use good judgment. But I wouldn't be happy if I was watching us play, either. I wasn't pleased with the way I coached or played, either.
"When you put on a jersey for LSU, there's a standard of football that those three letters on your jersey -- it's a prerequisite, and we didn't live up to that. That's the disappointment."

Paul Finebaum predicted Brian Kelly's downfall

In August, with the LSU Tigers being tabbed for a potential spot in the expanded College Football Playoff, controversial ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum predicted during an episode of "Gojo and Golic" that Brian Kelly would not succeed in achieving the Tigers' title ambitions.

“I don’t see any reason why they should be that great this year,” Finebaum said. “I mean, I think they’re good. That defense last year was just patently embarrassing. I admire Brian a great deal, but I blame him. I mean, he’s the one that chose their coordinator.
“He stuck with another assistant that, frankly, didn’t understand what he was doing. I mean, for the life of me, I have yet to figure out how they’ve handled Harold Perkins, who is just a defining player. They look like they just said, ‘How can we screw this guy up and lose (three) games?'”

Brian Kelly arrived in Baton Rouge with high expectations, but the LSU Tigers have not managed to rise to the occasion during his tenure. On Saturday, fans in Death Valley made their feelings known by throwing debris on the field and emptying the iconic stadium as the Crimson wave washed over Baton Rouge.
