Brian Kelly leads his LSU team to a tough test this weekend. The Tigers welcome Ole Miss to Baton Rouge in their second conference game of the season. With both teams boasting a similar record, an exciting encounter is anticipated at the Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
Ahead of the contest, Brian Kelly has set straight his expectations for his team. Ole Miss will be entering the game as a three-point favorite. However, Kelly noted during his appearance on SportsCenter on Wednesday that he expects his team to bring out the best on Saturday.
“This is about our football team playing their best when the best is needed and it's going to be needed against this football team,” Kelly said.
"The outcomes are certainly important. Our fanbase wants to win championships, we want to win championships. I need this football team to play the right way, play for four quarters, get off to a great start and play consistent complementary football for four quarters. That’s what I’m really looking for.”
Brian Kelly believes there’s still a lot ahead to be achieved
LSU opened the 2024 college football season with a disappointing defeat to USC in Las Vegas. However, the team has recorded significant improvements since then, going on to record notable victories against Nicholls, South Carolina, UCLA and South Alabama.
However, Brian Kelly believes there's still a lot ahead for the Tigers this season. Without a doubt, securing a spot in the expanded college football playoff is a goal for LSU and Kelly believes the team could start earning all that it's deserved with its performance on Saturday.
“The work is ahead of us,” Kelly said. “We have to play seven SEC games. So each and every week we know the battle that is in front of us and quite frankly, we haven’t done anything yet.
“We’re 1-0 in the SEC and we had to come from 17 points down. We’ve got plenty of time to earn our respect and it’ll have to start this Saturday against a great Ole Miss football team."
Securing a win against Ole Miss this weekend is crucial to Brian Kelly and his team to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, Lane Kiffin’s team comes as a big hurdle for the Tigers.
In its conference schedule, LSU has to play Texas A&M, Alabama and Oklahoma. These games undoubtedly have a lot of implications for the Tigers probability of making the playoffs.
