Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes lost 36-14 to the No. 17 BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday to end their season 9-4. The teams finished tied for first place in the Big 12 conference and both narrowly missed out on the chance to play in the conference championship game and the College Football Playoff.
The game at the Alamodome was sold out as fans thronged to watch the Buffs' departing stars, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman winner, Travis Hunter. However, it was Cosmo the Cougar, BYU's mascot that stole the show.
On Monday, Cosmo danced to Shedeur's hit song "Perfect Timing" and got a nod of approval from Coach Prime's eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr, who reposted the clip on his stories.
"That's actually @byufootball," Sanders Jr. wrote with fire emojis.
Deion Sanders shares admiration for BYU coach
During his postgame news conference, Deion Sanders shared his admiration for Kalani Sitake's Cougars, praising the team's preparedness.
“They played a heck of a football game and I’m proud,” Sanders said. “If I’m going to get my butt kicked, I’d rather get my butt kicked by (Kalani Sitake). I love him for life. He’s a good man. (It was a) wonderful job, wonderful job by BYU. They’re well-coached. They did a phenomenal job running the football. Their special teams kicked our butts. We couldn’t do (much) offensively at all."
During his weekly news conference when the matchup between the Cougars and the Colorado Buffaloes was announced, Deion Sanders was effusive in his praise of Sitake.
“Playing against a wonderful, storied university in BYU is unbelievable,” Sanders said. “You talk about leadership in (Kalani Sitake) ... don’t get it twisted, he’s a darn good football coach, he’s a leader of men and a God-fearing man. So to see him, to watch him, to get the opportunity to meet him at the Big 12 meetings and now being able to compete against him is unbelievable.
“(Kalani) is awesome. Amazing. Let me tell you something, man. At the Big 12 meetings, just sitting beside him, he was so welcoming, he was so kind, and he’s a big fella too, so he’s intimidating, you know. But he was just one of the best dudes ever."
After the Alamo Bowl clash, Deion Sanders and Kalani Sitake shared a wholesome embrace and the Buffs coach wiped sweat away from the forehead of the Cougars coach.
