Cam Rising is the quarterback for the Utah Utes and one of the top quarterbacks in the Big 12. Last week, Rising made his long-awaited return to college football and had a strong performance.

This weekend, the Utah Utes faced the Baylor Bears in their first game against fellow Big 12 opposition. However, Rising did not play for most of the game due to an injury. But what happened to him?

What happened to Cam Rising?

Rising played much of the first half against the Bears. In this period, he went 8-14, threw for 92 yards, and scored two early touchdowns to give Utah an early lead.

However, near the end of the first half, things soon took a turn for the worst for Rising.

Rising was pushed into a bank of water coolers on the Baylor sidelines. This play did not constitute a "roughing the passer" penalty. Rising injured his throwing hand, and as a result, he went into the medical tent.

He was later seen on the sidelines in street clothes, with both his middle and ring fingers bandaged up. He was out for the game.

Who replaced Cam Rising?

Cam Rising was replaced as the Utes quarterback by freshman Isaac Wilson. Issac is the younger brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, who plays for the Denver Broncos, having been traded from the New York Jets in the offseason.

He played in the second half of the game and threw for 40 yards, going 4 of 9.

This change in quarterback was paired with Baylor finding their offense. Luckily for Utah, Rising's early scores were enough, and the Utes would beat the Bears 23-12.

What did Utah coach Kyle Whittingham say about the injury to Cam Rising?

After the game, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham spoke to the media about Rising's injury and whether he would be available for next week's game:

"Just been told it's not real serious. You know what I know now. It wasn't real serious and can't tell you the exact description of what happened, but he may be back this week. We'll see."

This is the best-case scenario for the Utah Utes. While their star quarterback did get injured, it is not seen as serious, and there is a likelihood that Rising can play next week against Utah State.

For the Utes to have a good season and be a contender for the College Football Playoffs, they need Rising. His injury may affect them in the short term, but it is unlikely to in the long term.
