Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward helped the team to a 10-3 campaign in his final college season. He began his collegiate career with the Incarnate Word Cardinals in 2020. Ward spent two years with the Washington State Cougars before joining Miami this season.
Ward recorded 4,313 passing yards and 39 touchdowns while helping the Hurricanes to a Pop-Tart Bowl showdown against Iowa State. His collegiate career ended with a 42-41 loss in the Bowl game.
With the Tennessee Titans holding the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after their recent loss to Houston, NFL insider Dov Kleiman shared a tweet on X, saying Ward is reported to be the Titans' favorite instead of Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, who is projected to go as the No.1 overall pick this year.
"The #Titans who hold the #1 pick are rumored to 'love' Miami QB Cam Ward, per @AllbrightNFL," Kleiman wrote.
Fans shared their thoughts on perspectives on Cam Ward being the potential No.1 pick instead of Shedeur Sanders in the draft. One fan downplayed these rumors saying that the Miami QB is not a top pick material.
"Cam Ward will never be the #1 pick"
Another fan stated that drafting Cam Ward would be a mistake for the Tennessee Titans:
"That would be a huge mistake"
This fan felt that the Miami QB would waste his potential with the Tennessee Titan:
"Of course they do. Don't make another brother go and waste their career in Nashville. He needs to ask Coach Prime to be his dad until the draft is over."
Another fan stated that Ward will not have a successful career in the NFL:
"He will be a massive bust"
This fan downplayed the whole QB class in this year's NFL draft:
"very weak QB class- last year was much better."
One fan believes Shedeur fits Titans HC Brian Callahan's system better than Ward's.
"Oh please if they love Cam Ward they would fire Brian Callahan, Shedeur Sanders fits Brian Callahan's system better," the fan said.
There's uncertainty looming around who will be picked first overall this year. However, a few hours after the Titans held the first pick in the draft, BetMGM reported that the Miami QB was the -130 favorite to be drafted first overall over Shedeur, who has +105 odds.
NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. ranks Cam Ward as the second-best QB in the 2025 draft
Amid the debate between Shedeur and Cam, Mel Kiper Jr. released his Top 10 quarterbacks list for the 2025 NFL draft. Kiper ranked the Miami QB as the second best behind Shedeur Sanders.
Kiper also broke down and gave a detailed explanation behind his ranking.
"Ward has an unorthodox delivery," Kiper said. "But he throws with accuracy and velocity from different arm angles. He displays solid game management traits, and while he had some ball security issues in 2023 at Washington State, there wasn't an issue in 2024.
"When things break down around him, Ward can extend plays with his legs, either throwing on the move or picking up first downs as a runner.... I like his toughness, swagger and confidence."
The Miami QB is going to be a first-round pick in this year's draft. However, only time will tell if he beats Shedeur Sanders to be drafted first overall.
