Deion Sanders has had one of the best years of his coaching career. His 16th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes boast an 8-2 record this season and seem set for a Big 12 title. However, with the 2024 season approaching its end, Coach Prime also has his eyes fixed on 2025.
On Thursday’s episode of the “Colorado Football Coaches Show” on the team’s YouTube channel, Sanders, who has a net worth of $45 million (per Celebrity Net Worth), shared his thoughts on a new addition to the team, Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis.
“I can’t wait to be a part of his life and coach him,” Coach Prime said.
Lewis’s addition to the team is exciting news. JuJu, the No. 2 recruit per 2025 ESPN 300, is one of the nation’s top quarterback recruits following his performances for Carrollton High School in varsity 2024-25 (2,842 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, four interceptions).
His decision to commit to Colorado makes him the likely successor of Deion’s son, Shedeur Sanders.
The news was a surprise, considering Lewis had previously committed to Southern California. However, he had a change of heart and has expressed his belief that the Buffaloes are the best team for him.
He announced his decision on the Pat McAfee Show.
“It was big for me coming in after Shedeur, just seeing what he’s done to Colorado and what he’s turned it into," Julian Lewis said. "It’s definitely a blessing getting put into this position coming after him and his dad.”
Julian Lewis joins Colorado Buffaloes as Shedeur Sanders’ successor
Shedeur Sanders is in line to be a top NFL draft pick in 2025. While his success has brought much joy to Buffs fans, his looming absence has been a source of anxiety. However, Julian Lewis’ decision to commit to Boulder has got fans excited for the 2025 season.
“Coach Prime’s always said the best man is going to play," Lewis said (3:46 onwards) "And that’s what I really wanted: to come in and compete and start as a freshman. I wouldn’t have much fun sitting on the bench.”
The university has already accepted Julian Lewis as one of its own and has gone above and beyond to make him comfortable. The Sink restaurant near the university campus even named a burger after him.
From the looks of things, Julian Lewis seems to be right at home in Boulder, and for now, his future with the Buffs looks bright.
