Carson Beck has been in the spotlight since reports emerged that the quarterback entered the transfer portal on Thursday. A day later, it was reported that Beck committed to the Miami Hurricanes after spending four seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs.
On Friday, Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reported that Beck signed a one-year, $4 million deal to commit to Miami. The ex-Georgia star was initially tipped to declare for the 2025 NFL draft but reversed his decision to return to the collegiate level for one more year.
Beck's decision to transfer to Miami has once again raised eyebrows regarding the money spent on college football players. Last week, reports indicated that an unnamed school offered $6 million to Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers to enter the transfer portal after the current season concludes.
Beck committed to Georgia in 2020 and redshirted his first season. He served as the backup to Stetson Bennett for two years when the Bulldogs won two national titles before getting the starting QB role in 2023.
Although Beck did well in his two years as Georgia's starting play-caller, he will take his services to Miami for the 2025 season. The Hurricanes reportedly need a starting quarterback since Heisman finalist Cam Ward is set to declare for this year's NFL draft.
Why is Carson Beck returning to college football in 2025 season?
On Thursday, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Carson Beck's agents and camp suggested they wanted to make a logical decision to let the quarterback return for his final year of college eligibility in 2025. The move is likely to boost Beck's draft stock in 2026, which took somewhat of a hit this season.
Beck's final season with Georgia did not go according to plan. The Bulldogs suffered two defeats in the regular season, and Beck missed the team's College Football Playoff game due to injury. Georgia lost 23-10 to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, in which Gunner Stockton was the Bulldogs' starting QB.
