Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning replaced Quinn Ewers in the third quarter of the Longhorns' 49-17 blowout win against the Florida Gators on Saturday. He went 3-of-6 for 19 yards to close out the game that was 42-3 when he took the field.
During the game, ABC’s Joe Tessitore shared a story about an experience with Arch Manning. Manning stepped in for injured Quinn Ewers but humbly avoided the spotlight his performances drew.
"This is Quinn's team right now," Manning told Tessitore when he attempted to interview him.
Arch Manning steps aside for Quinn Ewers
The sentiment by Arch Manning to shy away from the media spotlight for Quinn Ewers is not new. His family has also sent a message about the quarterback respecting the order of things in the Texas Longhorns' QB room.
In an episode of "The Pat McAfee Show," Pat McAfee shared a message that he had gotten from Manning's family around the quarterback's standing in the Texas pecking order even when Quinn Ewers was injured.
"One of my sources in the Manning family told me this. We are old school and you never lose your job from an injury," McAfee said. Everybody assumes that Arch is on a fast track to the NFL, but that isn't true. He wants to develop and stay in Steve Sarkisian's system."
NFL great Peyton Manning reiterated this message from the Manning family on "The Pat McAfee Show."
"I'm proud of Arch. I'm proud of him," Manning said. "Most kids probably wouldn't have stayed in that situation. He went to Texas because he wanted to play at Texas. He wanted to go to college and play for (Steve) Sarkisian. ... He and Quinn (Ewers) have a great relationship and I think Quinn is going to have a great year."
With Quinn Ewers set to enter the NFL in the 2025 Draft, Arch Manning has bolstered his team-first reputation in recent years. College football fans are now eagerly awaiting his chance to lead the Longhorns offense.
