ESPN "College GameDay" analyst Pat McAfee has a no-holds-barred approach to being an analyst in a major network, and his brash and unfiltered style has polarized fans since he started in the role two years ago. He still does not have a contract for his role in the show for next season, which starts in less than three months.

Last year, The Athletic published a poll that found that 48.1% of its respondents did not like McAfee's presence on the "College GameDay" show. Afterward, the host posted his thoughts on the article on X.

“To the 49%, I have some great news.. I have heard you all very loud and clear since the beginning of my stint with GameDay. It’s one of the biggest reasons why I have not resigned a contract with the legendary show. I’m not right for some crowds and the “distinguished” College Football folks are definitely one of those.”

College football fans in the comment section of an Instagram post by Elite College Football were divided on whether they wanted the popular analyst to stay or leave.

Pat McAfee battles against ESPN

Pat McAfee has had an ongoing war with ESPN after signing his five-year, $85 million contract last year. Earlier this year, he accused ESPN executive Norby Williamson of "sabotaging" his show.

The issue began after the New York Post released a report that detailed the dwindling numbers faced by "The Pat McAfee Show," which aired right after "First Take" on ESPN.

"There are folks actively trying to sabotage us from within ESPN," McAfee said. "More specifically I believe Norby Williamson is the guy attempting to sabotage our program.
"[Williamson] is seemingly the only human that has information, and then somehow that information gets leaked and it's wrong and then it sets a narrative of what our show is. And then are we just going to combat that from a rat every single time?"

Immediately after the episode aired, the controversial McAfee's public call out of the network's executive was widely discussed, and he did not back down from his statement on an "All the Smoke" podcast.

“I don't know if there was any conversation that happened behind," McAfee said. "I thought that was a warning shot. I didn't even think that was a (direct hit). I'm the executive producer of my show. I report directly to Jimmy and Bob. … Like I saw, everybody was like, ‘Pat calls out his boss.’ I don't got a motherf**king boss.”

With the days to the college football season continuing to tick down, the union between Pat McAfee and ESPN is looking shaky at best. Moreover, the polarization among fans does not help the situation.
