Arch Manning is one step closer to becoming the new starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. This is not surprising, considering his potential and the current struggles of quarterback Quinn Ewers.
However, the future of Ewers will also play a role in whether Manning wins the starting role. But, on Friday, it was reported that Ewers still intends to declare for the 2025 NFL draft.
Here is how College Football fans reacted to this news on social media.
These fans have said that Ewers entering the NFL draft puts the Oregon Ducks (who are likely to want a replacement for Dillon Gabriel next season) at a loss.
"Oregon and Indiana are down an option" said this fan
"All those Oregon hopefuls in shambles" said another fan
Some fans speculated on where Ewers would fall in the upcoming NFL draft.
"This is a weaker QB class, I think he will go 2nd or 3rd round and he is fine with that." Said this fan
"Quinn is a 3rd round pick" said another fan
"4th rounder" said a third fan
Other fans shared their take on the idea that Quinn is only declaring for the NFL draft as the Longhorns have "pushed him out" and replaced him with Arch Manning.
"Pushing that kid out is nasty work" said this fan
"They know he’s bad they pushing him out for manning 😂" said another fan
Quinn Ewers potential third round pick if he declares for the 2025 NFL draft
Quinn Ewers has one more year of eligibility left. Some scouts have suggested he use one more year in college before declaring for the NFL draft.
NFL draft buzz currently has Ewers as a potential third-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. But, if he leads the Longhorns to a national championship, this is only going to increase.
Ewers' form this season has been mixed. Despite the presence of Arch Manning on the Longhorns roster, he has remained the starting quarterback for the program despite the downturn in form.
But, coming into the season, it was always the plan for Ewers to move on from Texas and likely head into the NFL. This would give Manning (who has sporadically played during the last two seasons) at least one full season (but likely two) to lead the Longhorns.
However, even though Ewers has struggled this year, he has still been able to lead Texas to a spot in the College Football Playoff and played in the SEC Championship game, which the Longhorns lost to the Georgia Bulldogs.
