Former Michigan Wolverines running back Blake Corum was one of the best players in college football last season, leading his team to a national championship win. The Los Angeles Rams selected him with the 83rd pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft.
Corum appeared in Rams uniform for the first time during the NFL Rookie Premiere and posted pictures from the photoshoot on Instagram.
College football fans who enjoyed the tenacity of the running back during his Michigan days reacted to the post hyping up the Rams star.
Blake Corum to play big role in the NFL immediately
Blake Corum will play alongside Kyren Williams, who had a stellar season last year, rushing for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns in just 12 games.
In an in-house interview, Les Snead, the Rams general manager, explained how Corum would fit in with Williams and why they were eager to draft him to ease the burden on their star running back.
"A lot of people have said he's (Corum) similar (to Williams)," Snead said. "They have a very similar play style. They both really, really care about football. That's very important on that side of the ball. That's a sophisticated side of the ball.
"We're a relatively advanced, veteran offense, so you definitely are going to need to bring a care factor to be able to get up to speed and be able to function and fit right in and keep the thing humming."
Blake Corum was consistently one of the best running backs in the country during his three-year college football career. He finished with 649 carries and rushed for 3,660 yards and 56 touchdowns.
With Kyren Williams at risk of injury, having missed four games last season, Snead said that the acquisition of Corum was a priority to keep the team fresh and free from injuries.
Rams coach Sean McVay also talked about the offensive team's excitement at drafting Corum.
"For me, one of the things that jumped off is there's a lot of traits that reminded me of Kyren Williams," McVay said (h/t Sports Illustrated). "Obviously, Kyren will put Blake under his arm and be a great mentor and kind of a leader. But, (running backs coach) Ron Gould was really excited about him, (offensive coordinator) Mike LaFleur, I obviously love his game."
If Blake Corum can reproduce a fraction of the production he showed in college football for the Michigan Wolverines, the Los Angeles Rams will feel like they got the steal of the 2024 NFL draft.
