The Oregon Ducks showed that they're not only about flashy uniforms and announced their arrival into the Big Ten with an ostentatious showing. During Tuesday's Big Ten media days, the program floated a huge inflatable duck in the White River in Indianapolis to commemorate their entry into the new conference.
College football fans on X had mixed reactions to the eye-catching show by the Ducks.
Some fans thought the Ducks were trying too hard and were not pleased with the display.
"Reeks of pick me energy," one fan tweeted.
"I would get so much joy going deflate it," another fan tweeted.
"Oregon playing for clicks," one fan tweeted.
The Oregon Ducks billed for "biggest game of the year"
Reigning champions Michigan Wolverines replaced coach Jim Harbaugh with first-year coach Sherrone Moore and lost a huge chunk of their national championship-winning team to the NFL draft, dropping down most sports books as favorites for the Big Ten.
Instead, the two teams that are being hyped as contenders for the conference championship game and the expanded college football playoff slots are the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Ducks.
During an episode of "The Late Kick Show," CBS Sports analyst Josh Pate billed the Ducks' clash against the Buckeyes as the biggest game of the year highlighting its overall importance in the college football calendar.
Pate said:
"I think Ohio State at Oregon is maybe the biggest game of the year, certainly one of the biggest games of the year. These are the top two teams at Fan Duel in terms of odds to win the Big Ten. The physicality challenge for Oregon, the thing that everyone is talking about, how is that high-flying offense gonna fit in the ultra-rugged Big Ten?
"That stuff is normally overblown, probably Oregon, little cheat sheet here, let's go ahead and start there, they may be one of the most physical teams in the Big Ten, how about that? Autzen will be an absolute spectacle in this Week 7 matchup. These two teams could meet once, they could meet twice, they could meet thrice."
According to Fan Duel, the Buckeyes are favorites with +155 odds to win the conference followed by Dan Lanning's team with +210 odds trailed by coach Sherrone Moore's team at +750.
The Ducks are certainly entering the Big Ten with huge expectations foisted on them without a chance to settle into their new surroundings but like the dazzling display with the inflatable duck in the White River, Lanning's team is certainly here to compete.
