The Texas Longhorns dominated the Michigan Wolverines at the Big House in Ann Arbor in a 31-12 win during Week 2 of college football action. It was the first loss of coach Sherrone Moore's tenure after 16 straight home wins under former coach Jim Harbaugh.
To put a full stop to the hyped-up clash, linebacker David Gbenda attempted to plant his program's flag on the Michigan logo in the center circle, but it toppled over.
College football fans on X had mixed reactions to Gbenda's flag-planting attempt.
Some fans were critical of the gesture.
"This gon come back to bite ’em for sure," one fan tweeted.
"Kinda embarrassing the whole idea is to plant the flag," another fan tweeted.
"Bruh lol couldn’t even stake it properly," one fan tweeted.
Texas clinches era-defining win at the Big House
After the game, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian highlighted the importance of his team's win over a quality opponent, saying:
"This is a tough place to come and win. They had obviously won 23 in a row here, and this is obviously a quality opponent. So for our players to come in and play with the poise and composure that they played with, but yet also the physicality and the toughness we had to play with today, I thought they just did a really nice job."
The Texas Longhorns have now had two era-defining wins on the road in the past two seasons starting with their 34-24 victory over retired coach Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa last season.
This is the first time that the Longhorns have won at the Big House. Even though coach Sherrone Moore's team was tabbed to struggle after losing 17 starters from last year's all-conquering team, it's still a big scalp for Texas.
Sarkisian was upbeat about his team's status in the current college football picture.
"None of the moments should feel too big for us anymore," Sarkisian said. "And that's just what I commended them for in the locker room. This is who we are. This is how we know how to play. There's nothing better than going on the road and when you have great composure and you can play that way."
The Texas Longhorns will be expected to make a splash in the Southeastern Conference and the college football playoff picture. A win in the Big House is a good place to plant a flag of their intentions.
