Freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams was the star of the show during the epic week five clash between the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and the No. 4 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The latter won the game 41-34. It was William's spectacular 75-yard catch-and-spin touchdown that put the Tide ahead with 2:18 remaining.
The stellar performance by Williams had a knock-on effect off the gridiron, with the wide receiver's rating in the popular EA Sports College Football 25 game increasing. His previous overall rating was 81 and in the latest update, it rose to 82.
On the X post announcing the changes in ratings, college football fans had mixed reactions to William's ratings.
"These are awful changes 😂 DJU should be at like a 65 overall with how he’s played. Donovan should be like a 75 with how he and Michigan have played. And Ryan Williams should be like a 95 with how’s he’s played," one fan commented.
There were few fans who advocated for the Alabama wide receiver's ratings to increase further.
"Ryan Williams should be a 88 already," one fan tweeted.
"how does DJ only go down 1 and williams only go up 1," another fan tweeted.
"Ryan Williams needs an 85," one fan tweeted.
Ryan Williams hype train rolls on
The rave reviews that Ryan Williams is receiving are perhaps only matched by those of fellow freshman Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith who is also making a name for himself on the college football scene.
On an episode of ESPN's "Always College Football," analyst Greg McElroy was full of praise for William's performance against the Georgia Bulldogs, highlighting what made it so unique (27:18).
“Ryan Williams from Alabama, I don’t know what more you can say about this young man,” McElroy said. “To do it on the biggest possible stage, going for nearly 200 yards against the Georgia Bulldogs, who do have corners that will play professionally.
"He did an amazing job of creating separation, did an amazing job of being consistent with his hands, the guy almost never drops the ball.”
McElroy also further broke down the facets of William's overall gameplay that make him so successful against experienced defenders in college football with NFL futures.
"He almost never is out of position and he always seemingly tracks the ball in the air better than anyone else that has eyes on the football as it’s traveling towards them," he added.
"I love what I’ve seen from Williams, the one thing I did not anticipate was him being as strong as he is and being as good as he is after the catch."
Williams has registered 462 yards on 16 receptions resulting in five touchdowns through the Alabama Crimson Tide's first five games, forming a good on-field chemistry with quarterback Jalen Milroe.
