The Oregon Ducks have become renowned in college sports for their often distinctive uniform combinations. On Thursday, the Ducks launched the "Generation O" uniform, which pays tribute to the "Gang Green Gang."
The new uniform will be launched as the program ushers in a new era as it moves to the Big Ten from the Big 12 to complete the first wave of conference realignment and expansion games in college sports.
The uniform is a throwback to the one worn in the 1990s by the team that was branded the "Gang Green." It features a green jersey and bottoms with yellow highlights and winged helmets.
"Oregon has revealed their second ‘Generation O’ uniform, paying tribute to their “Gang Green” era," SBE College Football wrote on Instagram.
As usual, college football fans on Instagram reacted differently to the new Ducks' uniforms.
"They gotta know what that sounds like," a fan said.
"Gangrene?" a fan asked.

The Oregon Ducks share a unique relationship with Nike
The Ducks began designing the most eye-catching uniforms in college sports in 1996 when they partnered with Nike. Since then, they have set the standard in college sports.
The Nike founder Phil Knight, an Oregon graduate, collaborated with former Ducks track coach Bill Bowerman to create the company in 1964. He has since become fondly known as "Uncle Phil" to the students of his alma mater.
During an interview with Andscape in 2022, former Ducks wide receiver Garren Strong talked about his alma mater's strong links with Nike.
"Their relationship with Nike was different than any other college program. The founder of Nike, Phil Knight, was an alumnus, and there were also several folks that they mentioned that went on to graduate from Oregon and work at Nike. ... Then, it shows every Saturday when you see how the uniforms are completely different from the other Nike schools," Strong said.
On June 25, a documentary named "Rooted in Substance" exploring the unique connection between Knight and the Ducks was released. In the introduction trailer for the documentary, the Nike founder said:
“It was on this campus where the dream began. And the dream that ultimately became Nike. Coming back for football weekends is something special.”
In June, ESPN reported that Phil Knight had availed unlimited funds to an Oregon booster to help in NIL recruitments for coach Dan Lanning's side as they aim to snag the best talents to win a national championship.
