Georgia football coach Kirby Smart has been dealt a major blow with Rara Thomas' arrest just a month before the 2024 season begins. Thomas was suspended indefinitely by Georiga after reports emerged that the wideout was facing some serious charges, including three counts of family violence battery and three counts of second-degree cruelty to children.
On Sunday, college football insider Jason Martin advised coach Smart to 'step up' and take action.
"There's just too much stuff happening that doesn't need to be happening," Martin said on FOX Sports Radio. "And eventually, if you're in a position of authority, you have to take accountability for that. You actually have to step up and hold people accountable."
"You actually have to stand up and say, 'Yep, it's my responsibility, this guy is not going to play.' But I don't think that's gonna happen, because Georgia wins too many football games."
Last year, Thomas was reportedly arrested on a felony charge of false imprisonment along with a misdemeanor count of family violence battery. However, those charges were later dropped.
Despite facing off-field issues, Thomas had a standout 2023 season with the Bulldogs, recording 23 receptions for 383 yards and a touchdown.
However, it remains to be seen whether he will partake in action for Georgia in 2024.
During Georgia's SEC media days earlier this month, Kirby Smart spoke about the off-field issues his team has faced in the past few years.
“The incidents that we’ve had off the field are not something that we condone," Smart said. “It’s very unfortunate, disappointing I guess is the best word. I always talk about process and outcomes. I talked about that with wins and losses that we try not to base things on the outcomes with wins and losses. In this situation, the outcomes are very disappointing.”
Who is Kirby Smart's starting QB at Georiga for the 2024 season?
Carson Beck will lead Georgia's offense for the 2024 season. The quarterback attended Georgia's SEC media day this year alongside coach Kirby Smart.
Beck started all 14 games for Georiga last season. He racked up 3,941 passing yards and 24 touchdowns on 302 passes. The quarterback also posted four rushing touchdowns, as the Bulldogs finished with a 13-1 record.
Beck has two national championships to his name. However, both of them came when he was not Georgia's starting quarterback.
