Quinn Ewers and Texas will play their most important game on Friday — the Cotton Bowl Classic — against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Amidst that, Ewers faces too much noise about his future.
With Arch Manning primed to take over for the Longhorns in 2025, whispers of Ewers entering the transfer portal are getting loud — and added to that is the $6 million rumored offer that he has from an anonymous school if he chooses to transfer. CFB analyst J.D. Pickell weighed in on On3.
“Sources tell us Quinn Ewers is receiving $6 million offers to hit the portal,” Pickell said (01:15 onwards). "If he comes back all signs would indicate he would have to go somewhere that's not Texas because the Arch Manning era is happening in Texas one way or another.”
NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. also suggested that another year of college ball could help Ewers improve his draft stock, where he's currently projected as a second or third-round pick.
However, Ewers remains laser-focused on his upcoming showdown.
“Right now, I’m just not worried about all that stuff,” he said during Cotton Bowl media day.
Quinn Ewers may remain in college football next year, says Rich Eisen
According to sports analyst Rich Eisen, the Texas Longhorns quarterback might delay his NFL dreams. On the "Rich Eisen Show" last week, the 55-year-old shared insights that NFL evaluators have advised Quinn Ewers to remain in college football for one more season to refine his skills.
"Playing out behind the scenes is the NFL draft," Eisen said (5:20 onwards). "And playing out behind those scenes is a conversation I'm hearing is that a lot of NFL evaluators are telling Quinn Ewers, stay in college.
"And as we all know, if he stays in college for another year, it's not gonna be at Texas 'cause that's Arch Manning's gig next year and that's all playing out behind the scenes."
However, this potential decision comes with a twist — Ewers would need to transfer, as Texas is expected to hand the reins to Arch Manning in 2025.
Draft expert Bruce Feldman also weighed in, predicting that Ewers will enter the portal due to lukewarm NFL projections.
"The NFL doesn’t see him as a top-50 pick,” Feldman said. [06:17]
He was concerned about Ewers' performance when forced to improvise under pressure.
Before making any decisions, Ewers will face a crucial moment in the Cotton Bowl Classic against Ohio State, his former team. He led Texas to a double-overtime win against Arizona State in the Peach Bowl, where he logged 322 passing yards, two touchdowns and a rushing score. If he intends to declare for the 2025 NFL draft, Ewers must give his best.
