RJ Young believes that there's a player more important to Texas than Quinn Ewers, and that's running back Quintrevion Wisner. According to him, when the running back has been on top of things, the rest of the team has performed significantly better.
When discussing the possibilities of Texas beating the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Cotton Bowl, the host of the "Number One College Football Show" said this on Quintrevion Wisner:
"The reason why Texas would win this football game is Quintrevion Wisner. When Quintrevion Wisner has been bucking people, Texas has been damn near unstoppable. He's got over a 1000 yards rushing, five TDs and he was going into this year your third or fourth-best tailback." (5:30)
Wisner indeed had good numbers this season, running for 1,018 yards, with five touchdowns in 209 carries for the Longhorns. He has had four games for over 100 rushing yards, including one with 110 yards and two touchdowns that he recorded against Clemson in Texas's 38-24 first-round College Football Playoff victory.
Josh Pate agrees the running game will be essential for Texas' fortunes in the Cotton Bowl
Josh Pate is another football pundit who agrees that the Longhorns' running game, and by association Quintrevion Wisner, is key for the school's chances of winning the Cotton Bowl. Speaking on "Josh Pate's College Football Show" on Tuesday, the pundit said:
"I know Ohio State defensively is worlds better than Arizona State, and I know Ohio State is third nationally in sacks and they are sixth nationally in pressure rate.
"So, they may get after you anyway. But if you can't run the ball, it's a wrap. So that's a non-negotiable. Either you gotta be, like, plus four turnovers, and it just makes the box score thrown all out of whack or you've got to run the ball."
Texas does come in as an underdog to the Cotton Bowl, with Ohio State being favored by five-and-a-half points. Many believe the Buckeyes are the best team left in the competition, especially following their victory over No. 1 Oregon.
The game is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be played in Arlington, Texas, at AT&T Stadium. It will be broadcast by ESPN.
