The 2024 college football season is fast approaching and analyst Kirk Herbstreit has backed a Big Ten powerhouse to lift the national championship in the upcoming season. Herbstreit said he is putting his money on Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks to win it all ahead of a long season.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee show on Wednesday, Herbstreit dropped an early prediction.

"Look out for old Oregon," Herbstreit said. "Look out for the old Oregon Ducks. I may have Oregon winning it all."

The Ducks finished last season with a 12-2 record, which included winning the Fiesta Bowl. Notably, both of Oregon's defeats came against Washington, who finished as runners-up to the national title.

Oregon will officially complete its move to the Big Ten on August 2, and the conference will feature 18 teams for the upcoming season.

Furthermore, winning the national title will be more testing as Big Ten teams will need to play up to 17 games, following the introduction of the new College Football Playoff format. A total of 12 teams will qualify for the playoffs in 2024.

As per reports, quarterback Dillon Gabriel is expected to lead the Oregon Ducks' offense in the upcoming season. Coach Dan Lanning also has Dante Moore, Austin Novosad, and Luke Moga as options in his quarterback department.

Gabriel, who has big shoes to fill by succeeding Bo Nix, will enter his sixth year of college football in 2024. He began his career with UCF in 2019 and played three years with the Knights before transferring to Oklahoma, where he had a two-year sojourn.

After the 2023 season, Gabriel transferred to Oregon Ducks, just as they joined the Big Ten conference. He has racked up 14,865 passing yards and 125 touchdowns throughout his college career. The signal-caller also has 26 rushing touchdowns across 50 games.

The Ducks are ranked No. 4 in the post-spring 247Sports top 25 rankings. They will begin their 2024 college football season by hosting Idaho on August 31.
