College football analyst Chris Phillips of the "SEC Unfiltered" podcast doesn't think the Alabama Crimson Tide will end the year undefeated. Alabama is the No. 1 team in the country after its 41-34 win at home against Georgia in Week 5.
With the win, coach Kalen DeBoer's Crimson Tide team is in a good spot to make the playoffs and potentially even win the Southeastern Conference. However, Phillips thinks if any SEC team is going to go undefeated, it would be Texas and not Alabama.
"If anybody is going to go undefeated, I think Texas has the best shot, I think their schedule is most conducive," Phillips said. "Alabama still has a really tough slate, Tennessee still has a really tough slate. Texas has a tough slate, but it is a lot more manageable than some of the others I mentioned.
"They have the home game against Georgia, they got Red River, what is Oklahoma really, they haven't been great. They got Georgia, they got Red River, and A&M in College Station to close the year. Texas is a better football team, at least right now, and I don't see it changing than Texas A&M."
Phillips believes that Texas has a better shot than Alabama to go undefeated. However, the analyst doesn't think any team in the SEC will end the year going undefeated.
"If anybody is going to go undefeated, I think it's Texas. Does anyone go undefeated? I will say no, I will say everyone is going to lose a game but if someone is going to do it, I think it's Texas," Phillps said.
DeBoer's Alabama is off to a 4-0 start and will go on the road to play Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Alabama is not favored to win the SEC
Despite the Alabama Crimson Tide being ranked as the top team in college football in the latest AP Top 25 poll, the oddsmakers don't expect Alabama to win the SEC.
Instead, oddsmakers have the Crimson Tide with the second-best odds of winning the SEC at +220, which implies a chance of 31.3% chance of it happening. Meanwhile, Texas has odds of +200, which implies a 33.3% chance.
However, Alabama has put itself in a good spot to at least play in the SEC championship game after its win against Georgia. But the Crimson Tide still have notable games against Tennessee, Missouri, LSU and Oklahoma.
