College football insider Dan Murphy has given a major update on the investigation into the Michigan Wolverines' sign-stealing scandal. The NCAA is looking into allegations that Michigan, including then-staffer Connor Stalions, engaged in unauthorized scouting and recording of opponents' sidelines last season.

Although the NCAA has yet to announce any punishment for the program or its coaches, Murphy, on "The Rich Eisen Show" said:

"They did not find any Michigan coaches who knew about this, that they could prove knew about this. There were a handful of seven people total from the 2023 program who are subject to potential violations, and most of the coaching staff that lands on that list is due to interfering or trying to get into the way of the NCAA's investigation." Murphy also said that most coaches facing possible discipline are no longer at the school or in the NCAA, which is why he doubts the NCAA will be able to do much. But he thinks that if anyone will bear the brunt of the blade, it will be new head coach Sherrone Moore.

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore facing allegations of sign-stealing

After Jim Harbaugh left the Wolverines to join the NFL's LA Chargers, Moore was named the new coach of the college program. According to AP, Moore is facing allegations of deleting text messages with Connor Stalions, who was at the forefront of the scandal. Moore is facing a potential Level 2 violation in the NCAA investigation.

Michigan has been adamant that the school did nothing wrong and is cooperating with the NCAA. The athletic department said, via ESPN:

"Our athletic department and university continue to cooperate with the NCAA regarding our ongoing investigation. We do not have an update to share regarding its status at this time."

Moore was an offensive coordinator before he was named the head coach. He has been with the Wolverines since 2018 and has also served as a tight end coach, offensive line coach and acting coach while Harbaugh was suspended last season for three games despite denying having any knowledge of the illegal operation.
