During the Alamo Bowl, the 17th-ranked BYU Cougars were able to dominate in the first half against the 23rd-ranked Colorado Buffaloes 20-0. However, things were not able to be all peaches and rainbows for the Cougars as junior wide receiver Chase Roberts suffered an upper extremity injury in the second quarter.
It was announced during the halftime break that Roberts would not be returning to the game as he landed on his left arm/shoulder and walked off the field with trainers by his side. He went to the medical tent but the results were not great and he did not return for the second half of the game.
There was a lot of speculation online, with many suggesting it was a shoulder dislocation, however, there has yet to be any official update. Roberts did return to the field postgame and was seen in a sling:
Chase Roberts did not have too much production in this game as he had one catch for 11 yards before leaving due to injury.
What should we expect out of Chase Roberts next season?
Last week, Chase Roberts announced that he will be returning to the BYU Cougars for his senior season instead of entering the 2025 NFL draft. He had his most productive season as heading into the Alamo Bowl, he finished with 51 receptions for 843 yards (16.5 yards per catch) with four touchdown receptions as well as five carries for 21 yards (4.2 yards per rush).
With quarterback Jake Retzlaff returning as well, this is a connection that is going to be great during the 2025 college football season. This should help Chase Roberts take that next step in the evolution of his game and be that potential 1,000-yard wide receiver next season in a tough Big 12 Conference.
There is a reason why this BYU Cougars team was able to start this season 9-0 and get as high as being ranked sixth in all of the nation before losing two of their final three regular season games. This connection with Chase Roberts stepping up even more should do wonders for the Cougars in 2025.
